Practical Tips to Stay Calm, Centered, and Connected This Holiday Season
Dear friends,
The holiday season can bring so much joy—but it can also come with social gatherings, family dynamics, and a never-ending to-do list.
This year, what if you approached it with presence and love—not just for others, but for yourself?
I’d love to share a few tips that have helped me navigate the season with more ease, presence, and self-compassion.
I’ve also included a free 10-minute yoga sequence. This short sequence is designed to uplift your mood, open your heart, and help you approach the holidays with presence, love, and positivity. Simply click the video at the top to practice with me!
And don’t forget—you’re invited to my Half-Day Online Retreat Choosing Love on December 14th. More details below.
Pause Before Reacting
In tense moments, instead of reacting immediately, take a breath and pause. When someone says something to you, repeat it back in your own words, like, “So, what I’m hearing is…” This simple step not only helps the other person feel heard, but it also gives you space to respond thoughtfully, rather than impulsively.Shift Your Perspective
In moments of tension, focus on what’s working rather than what isn’t. Pause and ask yourself: “What can I appreciate right now?” Even in challenging situations, a shift in perspective can bring you back to a place of gratitude and calm—and remember, positivity attracts positivity.Deep Breathing
When things feel tense, or if you just want to feel more present and relaxed, your breath can be your best friend. Slow, deep breaths help calm your nervous system and release tension. A few moments of conscious breathing can reset your state of mind and bring you back to a place of balance, no matter the possible chaos around you.Prepare for Challenging Conversations
Think ahead about what you want to say in difficult situations. Sometimes it helps to have a simple script ready: “I’d rather not discuss this right now. Let’s focus on enjoying our time together.” Having this plan can keep you from feeling overwhelmed and help you stay grounded in the moment.Create Personal Space
It’s perfectly okay to step away for a moment if you feel overwhelmed. Excuse yourself for a few minutes to find a quiet space, take a walk, or simply breathe deeply. Giving yourself space to recharge helps you return with a clearer mind and more presence.Respond with Kindness
When tensions rise, instead of defending yourself or reacting to negativity, try responding with kindness. A gentle response can often soften the situation and bring more peace to both sides. You Have a Choice
You always have the choice to say no, even if it means disappointing someone or setting a boundary. If a gathering or situation feels emotionally draining, and the cost outweighs the benefits, it’s okay to opt out. Choosing to prioritize your well-being is one of the most loving things you can do, both for yourself and for those you care about.
